A former town in Ama County, western Aichi Prefecture. Located in the center of the Nobi Plain and bordering the west of Nagoya City, the town is a thriving industrial area with factories that process automobiles, electrical appliances, and synthetic resins. Rice is grown here, and the town is known for its Hōryō daikon radishes. The town is served by the Meitetsu Tsushima Line and the Tomei-Osaka Expressway, and Jimokuji Temple, a Shingon Buddhist temple founded in the Nara period and rebuilt in the Kamakura period, is known as one of the four Kannon temples of Owari. In March 2010, the town merged with Shippo Town and Miwa Town in Ama County to become a city, forming Ama City. Area: 9.34 km2 . Population: 38,563 (2005).
