...they used this name to claim to be the descendants of the ancient Kshatriyas. The region of Rajasthan where they live is also called Rājputāna (land of the Rajputs). They originated from the Central Asian tribes who came to India with the Huna tribe (Hephthalites) in the mid-5th century, as well as from indigenous tribes.

…At the end of the empire, small kingdoms were separated, but many of them became princely states under British protection around 1817. During the British colonial period, it was called Rājputāna, meaning "the region inhabited by Rajputs." After Indian independence in 1956, the current state was established as a result of the reorganization of states by language.
