A Roman road built in 187 BC by the consul Aemilius Lepidus. It connected Ariminum on the northwest coast of the Adriatic Sea to Placentia on the upper reaches of the Po River. It was about 280 km long. It was later extended to Aquileia. The opening of the Via Aemilia promoted the Romanization of Cisalpine Gaul.
