Japanese: AS - えーえす

Abbreviation for Autonomous System. A single network where routing is performed according to the same operational policy. "The same operational policy" means, for example, that "the routing protocol used internally is unified to OSPF" and that "traffic from a specific source is assigned to which route" and other rules are the same. The "various networks of all sizes" that make up the Internet are managed based on this unit called AS. It is easy to understand if you think of an AS as one large network operated and managed by an ISP. ASes are directly connected to each other via dedicated routers. The routing protocol BGP uses AS as the unit of routing.

Autonomous System（自律システム）の略。同じ運用ポリシーでルーティングが行なわれている1つのネットワーク。「同じ運用ポリシー」とは、たとえば「内部で利用するルーティングプロトコルをOSPFに統一する」ことや、「特定の送信元からのトラフィックをどの経路に振り分けるか」といった決まりごとが同じであるという意味。インターネットを構成する「大小さまざまなネットワーク」は、このASと呼ばれる単位に基づいて管理されている。ASは、ISPが運用管理している1つの大きなネットワークだと考えるとわかりやすい。AS同士は、専用のルーターを介して直接接続されている。ルーティングプロトコルであるBGPでは、ルーティングの単位としてASを利用する。
