The Fujiwara Northern House Kazan'in School was founded in the late Heian period by Tadanori, the fifth son of Michizane. His son Yoritsune was a master of kemari (traditional Japanese kemari), and is said to be the founder of the Fujiwara family's kemari tradition. The family produced many kemari masters for successive generations, and inherited the Naniwa school. The family died out during the Muromachi period, but at the beginning of the Edo period, a member of the same family, Asukai Munekatsu, revived the Naniwa family, received a stipend of 300 koku, and made kemari his family business. In the Meiji period, he became a viscount. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
