Keihan Electric Railway
A private railway company. Keihan Electric Railway was established in 1906. In 1910, the Keihan Main Line (Tenmabashi-Gojo) began operation. In 1943, it merged with Hanshin Express Railway to become Keihanshin Express Railway (now Hankyu Corporation), but in 1949, the former Keihan Electric Railway line was separated from the company to form the current company. In 1989, it merged with Kamogawa Electric Railway and began operation of the Kamogawa Line (Sanjo-Demachiyanagi). It has lines connecting two prefectures and one prefecture, Osaka, Kyoto, and Shiga, and in addition to the railway, it also operates department stores, restaurants, inns, cultural facilities, entertainment facilities, etc. It is focusing on expanding its rental and distribution divisions. The company operates 88.1km of total operating distance, including the Keihan Main Line (Yodoyabashi - Demachiyanagi 51.6km), Katano Line 6.9km, Uji Line 7.8km, Keishin Line 7.5km, Ishiyama-Sakamoto Line 14.1km, and cable 0.4km. The company's business is 50% rail and 50% other businesses. Annual operating revenue is 258,192 million yen (consolidated), capital is 51,466 million yen, and the number of employees is 3,384 (1999).
