The river has a total generating capacity of 590,000 kW, consisting of the Uji Power Station (maximum output 32,500 kW), Amagase Power Station (92,000 kW), and the pumped-storage Kisenyama Power Station (466,000 kW, all built in 1997). The midstream forms a gorge called the Uji River Line, but the rapids of the past are no longer seen after the completion of Amagase Dam.
