It has a lilac-colored flower similar to that of chickweed, hence the Japanese name. The plant is hairless. The stem has four edges, branches, and grows above the ground or diagonally upward. The leaves are opposite, ovate or narrowly lanceolate, entire, 1-2 cm long, acute, and sessile and round at the base. From March to May, one flower is produced in the leaf axil. The pedicel is elongated and 1.5-4 cm long. The calyx has five lobes. The corolla is deeply 5-lobed, lilac-colored, red at the throat, and about 1 cm in diameter. ...
