Yabusame (English spelling) short-tailed bush warbler
A passerine bird of the family Flycatcher (illustration). Total length is about 11 cm. Its upper body is olive brown and its underside is pale, with a black-brown eye stripe and pale yellow eyebrows that stand out. Sexes are the same color. The tail is very short. It breeds in northeastern China, Primorsky Krai, the Korean peninsula, and Japan, and migrates to Southeast Asia in winter. It arrives in Japan as a summer bird in April and May, and lives in dense forests from plains to mountains throughout the country. It moves around actively in shrubs and on the ground, catching and eating mainly insects. Its song is a thin, "shishishishishishishishi" sound similar to the buzzing of insects, with a fast rising pitch.
