Yellowtail amberjack - Hiramasa

Japanese:
Yellowtail amberjack - Hiramasa

A marine fish belonging to the order Perciformes and family Carangidae. It is distributed in the warm seas of Honshu and the Yellow Sea, and is common along the western coast of the Korean Peninsula. It is rare on the Pacific coast north of Kinkazan, and on the Sea of Japan coast north of the Tsugaru Strait. It resembles the yellowtail, but is distinguished by its strong lateral flattening, dark yellow-green vertical stripes on its sides, and the rounded upper corner of the posterior end of its maxilla. It grows larger than the yellowtail, reaching a total length of 2 meters. It spawns from May to August, laying separate pelagic eggs. Unlike the yellowtail and amberjack of the same genus, the juveniles seem to attach to drifting seaweed offshore. While the juveniles of yellowtail and amberjack that attach to drifting seaweed are yellowish brown, the juveniles of the yellowtail are blue on the back and silvery white on the belly. It is caught by fixed nets and fishing along the coast. It is delicious in summer and is grilled with salt, boiled, dried, etc.

fishing

There are boat fishing and iso fishing. The fishing tackle for boat fishing varies greatly depending on the region. Expedition boats in the Izu region of Shizuoka Prefecture use a single live horse mackerel on a body-attached hook, or a chum basket with krill or pacific saury bait. In the Katsuura region of Chiba Prefecture, fishing is done with a large tenbin and rubber cushion. Yellowtail have excellent pull and running, so it is good enough to reel in half the fish that is hooked. Yellowtail fishing has become popular in recent years in iso fishing in the Izu Islands and elsewhere. A strong yellowtail fishing rod with 12-16 go fishing line is used. Fishing methods include basket fishing with a float and rubber cushion, or basket fishing with a basket for attracting bait, and live bait fishing with a single live horse mackerel. When fishing for yellowtail, it is important to make sure you have a good footing, wear a life jacket, and always put safety first.
