American Baptist Convention

...Two-thirds of the black churches in the South are Baptist, and this is the church of the civil rights leader, Rev. ML King. The so-called Northern Baptist Convention, which separated from the South before the Civil War in opposition to slavery, is small in number at about 1.6 million, but its liberal theological and political influence cannot be ignored. One of them is Rauschenbusch, a theologian of the social gospel in the early 20th century.
