Grip strength - acupuncture

Grip strength - acupuncture

It is the strength of gripping something with the hand. In physical fitness tests, it is used along with back strength as an index of muscle strength. Generally, active grip strength, or how strongly one can grip something, is measured two or three times using a grip strength meter. When measuring, the flexor muscles extending from the arm are contracted. When measured repeatedly, some people's grip strength decreases after a few measurements, while others do not. Those with high maximum muscle strength are not necessarily able to maintain high values continuously. Also, some people have a large difference in grip strength between their left and right hands, while others have a small difference. This is influenced by how they exert their grip strength in daily life. In contrast to active grip strength, which is continuous clenching, there is passive grip strength. This is measured by applying force to extend the fingers of the gripping hand or to open the palm, and how much they can withstand. Passive grip strength is the force exerted when hanging from an iron bar, etc., and is greater than active grip strength, but the correlation between the two is not very high.

Grip strength gauge

The most commonly used device for measuring grip strength is the Smedley dynamometer, which is used to measure active grip strength. When measuring, the grip width is adjusted so that the second joint of the index finger is at a right angle, and the subject is in an upright position, gripping the hand tightly without swinging or jumping. The needle that moves in this way indicates grip strength. During measurement, due to the nature of the device, which converts the mechanical force applied to a spring from the hand into kilograms and expresses it, it is important to adjust the dynamometer so that the reading it indicates is accurate in order to obtain an accurate value.
