…Unlike the traditional football style, in which the ball was carried only by the feet, Eastern schools, attracted by the excitement and intensity of using hands to slam opponents, switched one after another to the rugby style, and based it on which they created their own rules for American football. Walter Chauncey Camp (1859-1925), who is today known as the “father of American football,” played a major role in this reform. Camp, who served as captain at Yale University, stayed with the organization after graduation and participated in creating more rational rules as a rules committee member. …
