During the Edo period, this was a branch of the Okayama (Ikeda) Domain, which had its headquarters in Kamogata, Asakuchi County, Bitchu Province (Okayama Prefecture). In 1672 (Kanbun 12), Ikeda Mitsumasa's second son Masakoto was granted 25,000 koku in the three counties of Bitchu Province, Asakuchi, Kuboya, and Oda, and established the domain. Since then, the domain has held the fief for 10 generations, leading up to the Meiji Restoration. In 1868 (Keio 4), the Boshin War broke out, and the Okayama Domain was forced to overthrow the shogunate. The 11th lord of the domain, Ikeda Mochimasa, the younger brother of Tokugawa Yoshinobu, retired, and the 9th lord of the Kamogata Domain, Masaaki, was supported by the pro-imperial and anti-shogunate faction and took over the main domain, changing his name to Akimasa. In 1871, the feudal domain was abolished, and the area passed through Kamogata, Fukatsu, and Oda prefectures before being incorporated into Okayama prefecture.
