Larch genus

Japanese: カラマツ属 - からまつぞく
Larch genus

...They are also planted as garden trees for their fresh green and yellow leaves. The Larix genus (larch) is distributed in the subtropics of the Northern Hemisphere, with over 10 species, including European larch (L. decidua Mill.) in central to southern Europe, Siberian larch (L. sibirica Ledeb.) in western Siberia, Dahurian larch (L. dahurica) in eastern Siberia, and American larch (L. laricina Koch), which is widely distributed from Alaska to eastern North America. The closely related Pseudolarix kaempferi Gord. resembles larch, but its yellow leaves are more beautiful than larch's, and the cones crumble after ripening, scattering the scales. ...

From [Pine]

...The seeds are edible.
[Plants with the name pine]
There are a few Japanese trees whose Japanese names end with "matsu" that are not part of the genus Pinus, but all of them, such as Abies sachalinensis (genus Abies) and Larch (genus Larix), belong to the family Pinaceae, and there are few trees from other families. This is probably because in Japan, where the Chinese language is heavily influenced, pines are clearly distinguished from cedars and oaks by the shape of their needles.
