…Physiocrats (physiocrates) called themselves economists. It is believed that the reason it came to be called the Physiocratic agricultural system is because A. Smith called it that in The Wealth of Nations.

Physiocracy originally meant "government of nature," and the Physiocrats considered legal despotism, which legally restricted royal power, to be the best form of government. They endorsed the Louis dynasty of the time, but sought to realize an enlightened society based on natural order.
