[Otawara Castle Town]
A castle town in Nasu County, Shimotsuke Province, and a post station on the Oshu road. In 1545 (Tenbun 14), Otawara Sukekiyo built a castle on a hill on the right bank of the Sabi River, and served the Nasu clan, exerting his influence as one of their senior vassals, the Nasu Seven. The settlement around the castle developed into the castle town of the early modern period.
