Furubira County, Hokkaido. Occupying the eastern part of the Shakotan Peninsula, it has been developed as a fishing ground since the Edo period. In the Meiji period, it prospered through herring fishing, but declined after the early Showa period. It is home to Furubira Fishing Port, one of the best ports in Hokkaido.
