A mountain in the southwest of Gunma Prefecture and the northeast of the Kanto Mountains. It is also called "Mikabuyama." It consists of Higashi-Mikabuyama (1,246 meters) and Nishi-Mikabuyama (1,287 meters), both of which have rounded shapes and are easily visible from around Takasaki. Between the two Mikabuyama lies the saddle of Nageishi Pass. In 1888 (Meiji 21), Koto Bunjiro named the crystalline schists common in this area the Mikabu Formation after this mountain, and together with the Sanbagawa Formation to the east, this area is known as the birthplace of Japanese geology. There is a hiking trail that runs from Kanna Town through Nageishi Pass.
