A town in Watari County, in the southern part of Miyagi Prefecture, in the southern part of the lower reaches of the Abukuma River. The Joban Expressway and Joban Line pass through the town. The main settlement developed as a post station on the Rikuzenhama Kaido road. Arahama is a fishing port at the mouth of the Abukuma River, and was a rice shipping port during the Edo period. Rice, strawberries, and vegetables are cultivated thrivingly in the town. The town sustained damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 73.60 km2 . 34,845 people (2010).
