A telescope that can observe the solar corona even when there is no total solar eclipse. In order to observe the corona, which is one millionth as faint as the sun itself, the telescope is designed to minimize scattered light inside the telescope. To achieve this, (1) a disk like the moon is placed at the prime focus to create an artificial total solar eclipse, (2) a single objective lens is used (therefore, it is understood that there will be chromatic aberration) to reduce reflected light from the lens surface, and (3) diffracted light from the edge of the objective lens is blocked. In addition, it is installed on a high mountain where there is less scattered light from the Earth's atmosphere. It is installed on scientific satellites for solar observation and is also used to observe mass ejection phenomena in the corona. This device is also used to explore planets that may exist on stars other than the solar system. Planets are very faint compared to stars because they only reflect the light of the star that dominates them and do not emit light themselves. However, by using a coronagraph to block the light of a star with a light shield, it is possible to capture the faint brightness of a planet nearby. So far, we have found planets similar to Jupiter far from the star, but no planets like Earth.
