〘 noun 〙 ("Ki" means the end of something)① Mainly during the Heian period, when the "Nihon Shoki" or the presentation of Chinese classics or the imperial compilation of waka poetry at the Imperial Court was completed, a banquet was held, and ministers were asked to compose poems or songs related to the matters described in the book, and a stipend was bestowed upon them. It was also sometimes held as a private citizen. ※Sandai Jitsuroku - December 20th, 860 (2nd year of the Jogan era) "Okasuga no Ason Noh Tsugu, a Junior Fifth Rank, presented the Emperor with a comment on the Sutra of Filial Piety and bestowed upon him . Today , a ki banquet was held , and Noh Tsugu, a Junior Fifth Rank, was bestowed upon him." ※Masukagami (around 1368-76) 7 "If it was in the time of Shin Kokin, an event called a ki banquet was held. It was very interesting."② A banquet held after a festival or the like was over. Naorai (after-party) . ※Kokin Chomonshu (1254) 4 "A religious ceremony is held before this. A banquet is held on the day of the festival, and at night, the wise men are invited to the banquet. This is called the "matsuri no houban" (the banquet at the end of the festival)."

〘名〙 (「竟」は物事の終わる意)① 主として平安時代、宮中での「日本書紀」や漢籍の進講、和歌集の勅撰などが終わったとき、宴を設けて、其の書中記載の事項に関係のある詩や歌を諸臣に詠ませ、祿を賜下されること。また、一私人としてこれに擬して行なうこともある。※三代実録‐貞観二年(860)一二月二〇日「従五位上行大学博士大春日朝臣雄継以御注孝経皇帝、今日有竟宴、授博士雄継正五位下」※増鏡(1368‐76頃)七「新古今の時ありしかばにや、竟宴といふ事行なはせ給ふ。いとおもしろかりき」② 祭などが終わった後で催される宴会。直会(なおらい)。※古今著聞集(1254)四「神事をその前におこなふ。翼日に宴をはりて、夜に入て才子ひきて宴席をのぶ。これをまつりの竟宴といふ也」
