Ishimitsu Maomi

Japanese: 石光真臣 - いしみつまおみ

1870-1937 A military officer from the Meiji and Taisho periods.
Born May 9, 1870. Younger brother of Ishimitsu Makiyo. Became chief of staff at the Port Arthur Fortress during the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. Became chief of the European and American Section of the General Staff in 1915, and commander of the China Garrison Army in 1916. After serving as commander of the Military Police, he became commander of the 1st Division in 1936. Lieutenant General. He was known as an expert on China and the inventor of military training. Died December 8, 1937. Age 68. Born in Higo (Kumamoto Prefecture). Graduated from the Army War College. His name is also pronounced "Matsuomi."

明治3年5月9日生まれ。石光真清(まきよ)の弟。明治38年日露戦争の際,旅順要塞(ようさい)参謀長となる。大正4年参謀本部欧米課長,5年支那駐屯軍司令官。憲兵司令官をへて,11年第一師団長。中将。中国通,また軍事教練の発案者として知られた。昭和12年12月8日死去。68歳。肥後(熊本県)出身。陸軍大学校卒。名は「まつおみ」ともよむ。
