Stannic acid (Suzusan) (English spelling)

Japanese: スズ酸(錫酸) - すずさん（英語表記）stannic acid

A hydrate of tin(IV) oxide, _SnO2 . Its general composition is _SnO2 x _H2O . x is not a constant value, and it exhibits gel-like properties. The white precipitate that forms when a small amount of dilute acid is added to an aqueous solution of a stannate salt is called α-stannic acid. Its structure is unclear. α-stannic acid dissolves in alkali hydroxides and alkali carbonates. It has a high adsorptivity, and is good at adsorbing organic dyes and phosphoric acid. When left in solution or heated, it becomes crystalline and exhibits properties similar to tin(IV) oxide.

酸化スズ(IV)SnO₂の水和物。一般にはSnO₂･xH₂Oの組成をもつ。xは一定値をとらず，ゲルとしての性質を示す。スズ酸塩水溶液に少量の希酸を加えると生ずる白色の沈殿はα‐スズ酸と呼ばれる。構造などは明らかでない。α‐スズ酸は水酸化アルカリや炭酸アルカリに溶ける。吸着性が大きく，有機色素，リン酸などをよく吸着する。溶液中に放置するか，加熱すると結晶性になり，酸化スズ(IV)に似た性質を示すようになる。
