A Chinese scholar from the late Edo period, beginning with the Meiji Restoration. Born in Shukuminami Village, Yabu County, Tajima (Yaka Town, Hyogo Prefecture). His given name was Jin, his pen name was Shikei, and he was commonly known as Teizo. He was called Soan. Born the third son of a farming family, he was placed in the care of a temple, but at the age of 19 he returned to secular life and went to Kyoto to study under Soma Kuho. He initially studied the Sorai school, but later became friends with Kasuga Senan, and retired to the Matsuo mountains in Kyoto to indulge in deep contemplation, studying Zhu Xi and Yangmingism. At the age of 31 he returned to his hometown and opened a school, and at the age of 35 he built the Seikei Shoin School, where he taught the younger generation until his death. He loved poetry and prose, and above all else, his devout thoughts and actions earned him the nickname of the Tajima saint. <Works> Collected Works of Sensei Ikeda

幕末維新期の漢学者。但馬養父郡宿南村(兵庫県八鹿町)の人。名は緝,字は子敬,通称は禎蔵。草庵と号す。農家の3男に生まれ,寺にあずけられたが,19歳で還俗して京都に上り,相馬九方 に師事。その学ははじめ徂徠学であったが,のちに春日潜庵と交友,京都松尾山中に隠栖して思索にふけり,朱子学や陽明学を修めた。31歳で故郷に帰り開塾,35歳のとき,青谿書院を建てて亡くなるまで,ここで後進の指導に当たった。詩文を好み,何よりもその篤実な思想,行動から,但馬聖人と呼ばれた。<著作>『池田草庵先生著作集』
