The Ancient Meaning of the Analects

Written by Ito Jinsai. 10 volumes. Published in the second year of the Shōtoku period (1712). This work attempts to interpret the Analects of Confucius directly from the standpoint of ancient studies, ignoring the traditional exegesis and historical research, and instead follows the original text directly. It was drafted when Jinsai was 37 years old, but revisions were made throughout his life.
