Abeloff, G.

[First Period (1896-1912)]
It was time for the Olympic movement to overcome the difficulties of its early days and open up prospects for the future. The first Athens Games was held thanks to a donation from Alexandria's wealthy G. Averoff and the support of the Greek royal family, and was a success thanks to the dramatic effect of the first marathon, which commemorated a Greek historical event. However, founder Coubertin, who became the second president after the Games, immediately encountered difficulties at the second Paris Games in 1900. Although it was Coubertin's home country, France had little understanding of the Olympics, both in the public and private sectors, and the Olympic Games that Coubertin wanted were held as an attraction at the World's Fair, which happened to be organized by the French government, and the uniqueness of the Olympics could not be demonstrated.
