Around 1836-94
The last king of the Ndebele Kingdom in southwestern Zimbabwe, southern Africa. Reigned 1870-94. The son of the first king, Mzilikazi, he was born in Zululand (western Transvaal) shortly before the Ndebele people migrated to Zimbabwe. His mother was of Swazi descent, but when the question of succession arose after his father's death, he was made king in 1870 because his half-brother Nkulumane was missing. When Nkulumane and his supporters appeared two years later and tried to retake the throne, Lobengula and his troops repelled them and worked hard to develop the kingdom thereafter.

南部アフリカのジンバブウェ南西部にあったヌデベレ王国Ndebele Kingdom最後の王。在位1870‐94年。初代王ムジリカジの子で，ヌデベレ族がジンバブウェへ移住する少し前にズールーランド(西部トランスバール)に生まれた。母はスワジ族の出だったが，父の死後王位継承問題が起こった時，異母兄ヌクルマネNkulumaneが失踪中だったため，1870年王位に就かされた。2年後姿を現したヌクルマネとその支持者たちは王位奪還をねらって戦いをいどんだが，ローベングラとその軍隊はこれを撃退し，以来王国発展に尽力した。
