Shigenori Katogi

Japanese: 加藤木重教 - かとうぎしげのり

1857-1940 An electrical engineer from the Meiji to early Showa period.
Born on March 15, 1857. Studied at the Engineering Dormitory, then worked at the Ministry of Public Works before joining Tanaka Seisakusho (later Shibaura Seisakusho). In 1889 he traveled to the United States and trained in the manufacture of telephone sets and telephone exchanges. In 1891 he launched Japan's first electrical magazine, "Denki no Tomo." Died on December 1, 1940, aged 84. Born in Miharu, Mutsu (Fukushima Prefecture). His works include "The History of the Development of the Electric Industry in Japan."

安政4年3月15日生まれ。工学寮でまなび,工部省をへて田中製作所(のちの芝浦製作所)にはいる。明治22年渡米し,電話機,電話交換機の製作を実習。24年日本初の電気雑誌「電気之友」を創刊した。昭和15年12月1日死去。84歳。陸奥(むつ)三春(福島県)出身。著作に「日本電気事業発達史」。
