…English chemist and physicist. The 14th son of Richard Boyle, Earl of Cork, who had an estate in Ireland. After receiving his education at home and at Eton College, he traveled to Europe from the age of 12 to 17, where he acquired a classical education and a devout faith. During this time he also came into contact with the new sciences and studied the works of Galileo. He returned to England in 1644 and soon became friends with a group of scientists in London known as the Invisible College, and developed an interest in natural sciences. …
