Around 1495 - 1540
Italian painter. His real name was Giovanni Battista di Jacop de' Rossi. Born in Florence, he was one of the first generation of Mannerists. He moved to France after 1530 and contributed to the formation of the Fontainebleau School. According to Vasari, he had no teacher and no master to follow. However, his early works are significantly influenced by the classical style formulated by Fra Bartolomeo and Andrea del Sarto. However, in "The Assumption of the Virgin," which he painted with Andrea del Sarto for the Church of the Annunziata in 1516-17, his demonic imagery can already be seen.

イタリアの画家。本名ヤコポ･デ･ロッシGiovanni Battista di Jacop de’ Rossi。フィレンツェ生れの，第一世代のマニエリストの一人。1530年以降フランスに渡り，フォンテンブロー派の形成に貢献した。バザーリによれば彼に師はなく，追随する巨匠もいなかった。しかし初期の作品には，フラ･バルトロメオとアンドレア･デル･サルトの定式化した古典主義的様式の影響が著しい。しかし1516‐17年，アヌンツィアータ教会にアンドレア･デル･サルトとともに描いた《聖母の被昇天》には，すでにその悪魔的な図像がみられる。
