Around 1495 - 1540 Italian painter. His real name was Giovanni Battista di Jacop de' Rossi. Born in Florence, he was one of the first generation of Mannerists. He moved to France after 1530 and contributed to the formation of the Fontainebleau School. According to Vasari, he had no teacher and no master to follow. However, his early works are significantly influenced by the classical style formulated by Fra Bartolomeo and Andrea del Sarto. However, in "The Assumption of the Virgin," which he painted with Andrea del Sarto for the Church of the Annunziata in 1516-17, his demonic imagery can already be seen.
