Lothar [I] - Lothar
King of the Franks (reigned 840-843), Western Roman Emperor (reigned 840-855). After the death of his father Louis I, he fought against his brothers Louis II and Charles II over the succession, but lost. In 843, he divided the kingdom into thirds by the Treaty of Verdun, and received the imperial throne, Italy, and Middle Francia.
