1914‐84 Argentine novelist. Born in Brussels, Belgium, he worked as a French teacher after returning to the United States, but defected to Paris in 1951 and took up a position as a translator for UNESCO. He is well versed in French and English literature, and has translated many works by Gide and Poe. His representative works include "The End of Play" (1956), a collection of fantastic short stories that are in the tradition of Borges, "The Secret Weapon" (1959), "The Story of Cronopio and Fama" (1962), and "All Fire is Fire" (1966).
