The term "Baroque drama" is often used in theater history and in general, but it does not refer to a specific, clearly defined theatrical genre, but rather generally refers to "Baroque" theater, or to the "Baroque" style, or to theater in which "Baroque" elements are recognized. Therefore, although it is not always easy to pinpoint the era or region, in theater history, such a prominent theatrical phenomenon throughout Western Europe, which reached its peak from the late 16th century to the 17th century, is often understood and evaluated as "Baroque drama."
