1586‐1617 A saint born in Lima, Peru. She was called Rosa (meaning "rose") because of her beautiful appearance, which became her confirmation name. She was a devout believer from an early age and lived a religious life as a third member of the Dominican Order. She devoted herself to prayer and meditation, imposing the sufferings of Christ on herself, performing repeated physical penances, and experiencing divine revelation in ecstasy. In 1671, she was canonized by the Pope as the first person born in America, and was recognized as the patron saint of Lima, Peru, America, and the Philippines. Her feast day is August 30th.
