A saint born in Lima, Peru. She was called Rosa (meaning "rose") because of her beautiful appearance, which became her confirmation name. She was a devout believer from an early age and lived a religious life as a third member of the Dominican Order. She devoted herself to prayer and meditation, imposing the sufferings of Christ on herself, performing repeated physical penances, and experiencing divine revelation in ecstasy. In 1671, she was canonized by the Pope as the first person born in America, and was recognized as the patron saint of Lima, Peru, America, and the Philippines. Her feast day is August 30th.

ペルーのリマ生れの聖女。美しい容姿のゆえにロサ(〈バラ〉の意)と呼ばれていたのが堅信礼名となった。幼いころから信仰にあつく，ドミニコ会第三会員として修道生活を送った。祈りと瞑想にふけり，キリストの苦悩をみずからに課して，肉体的苦業を重ね，エクスタシーのなかで神の啓示に触れた。1671年に教皇により，アメリカ生れとしては初めて聖人に列せられ，リマ，ペルー，アメリカ，フィリピンの守護聖人と認められた。祝日は8月30日。
