Born: August 28, 1915 in Paris [Died] December 13, 1997. French poet, critic and novelist. His real name was Claude Orland. He started out working for the right-wing newspaper Action Française, but was influenced by L. Aragon and became a Communist and participated in the resistance. He left the party in 1956. With a lively, intelligent style and a clear, honest attitude, he was active in a wide range of writing. His main works include the poetry collection Un seul poème (1954), the novels La Nuit est un manteau des pauvres (48), Le Malheur d'aimer (58), the critique Aragon (45), and the autobiographical essays Moi je (69) and Nous (72).
