Japanese: トリバネアゲハ(鳥羽揚羽) - トリバネアゲハ

A general term for insects of the Ornithoptera genus in the family Papilionidae in the order Lepidoptera. A group of giant butterflies, the English term birdwing butterfly includes the Ornithoptera genus, which will be described later. Its distribution is limited to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, the Maluku Islands, and northern Australia. The first Ornithoptera was collected by the Englishman John McGillivray with a shotgun around 1885 during an expedition to New Guinea, and was named O. victoriae (Ornithoptera victoria) after the queen who reigned at the time.

鱗翅目アゲハチョウ科トリバネアゲハ属Ornithopteraの昆虫の総称。一群の巨大なチョウで，英語のbirdwing butterflyには後述のキシタアゲハ類も含まれる。ニューギニア島を中心に，ソロモン諸島，モルッカ諸島，北部オーストラリアなどに分布が限られる。1885年ころ，ニューギニア探検中のイギリス人ジョン･マギリブレーが散弾銃で初めて採集したトリバネアゲハは，当時在位中の女王にちなんでO.victoriae(ビクトリアトリバネアゲハ)と名づけられた。
