A continuous wall is constructed by excavating a wall-shaped trench underground using a stabilizer to prevent the excavated wall surface from collapsing, and pouring concrete into it. There are wall-shaped and column-shaped (continuous column piles) types, but recently, the term "continuous underground wall" generally refers to the wall-shaped type, and it is called various other names as synonyms, such as underground (medium) diaphragm wall method, stabilizer method, and mud wall method. This method was developed in Europe, and was first implemented in Japan in the mid-1950s. Since then, it has been used rapidly as a countermeasure against construction pollution such as noise, vibration, and ground subsidence due to the increase in construction work in cities in the 1960s.
