Rigen

Japanese: 利原 - りげん

A coastal county in the center of South Hamgyong Province, Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Most of the county is covered by mountains over 1,000 meters high, but there is a narrow plain along Iwon Bay, and there are deep natural harbors such as Iwon Port and Chaho Port. The coastal waters are home to world-class fishing grounds for pollock and mackerel, making it a base for the fishing industry. Iron ore, silica, talc and other mines are distributed around the mountainous area, and mining is also thriving. The county is known as the location of the Jinheung King Takjeongbi Monument, which records the expedition of King Jinheung of Silla in the mid-6th century.

朝鮮民主主義人民共和国，咸鏡南道中央部にある沿海の郡。郡の大半は1000m級の山地によって覆われているが，利原湾に沿って狭小な平野がみられ，また利原港，遮湖港など水深の深い天然の良港がある。近海にメンタイ(スケトウダラ)，サバなどの世界的漁場があり，水産等の基地となっている。山地にかけては鉄鉱石，ケイ石，滑石などの鉱山が分布し，鉱業も盛んである。新羅の真興王による6世紀半ばの遠征を記した真興王拓境碑の所在地として知られる。
