A strait between the northwestern tip of Wakayama Prefecture and Awaji Island, about 10 km at its narrowest point. It is also called the Kitan Strait, and in ancient times was also called Yura To. It is home to Okinoshima and Jinoshima, collectively known as the Tomogashima Islands, and from the west it is divided into Yura Seto (the main channel), Nakaseto, and Kadaseto. It is a key point of maritime traffic connecting Osaka Bay and the Kii Channel.
