Pokhara - Pokhara (English spelling)

It is the central town of the Pokhara Basin in central Nepal, rich in subtropical plants and fruits. It has a population of 156,312 (2001). It is connected by air routes and roads to Bhairahawa, the gateway to central Nepal from India, and Kathmandu, and is also the center of the Western Development Region. With an advantageous location right in front of the Annapurna mountain range, especially Machhapuchhre, it has become a base for Himalayan mountaineering and a tourist destination. The water from the nearby Phewatar Lake is used for irrigation and hydroelectric power generation. There are small factories such as a match factory.

ネパール中部、亜熱帯の植物や果物の豊かなポカラ盆地の中心町。人口15万6312（2001）。インドから中部ネパールへの入口バイラワおよびカトマンズと結ぶ航空路、自動車道路が通じ、西部開発地域の中心でもある。アンナプルナ山群、とくにマチャプチャレ峰を眼前にした地の利を得て、ヒマラヤ登山基地、観光地となっている。近くのペワタール湖の水は灌漑(かんがい)や水力発電にも使われる。マッチ工場などの小規模工場がある。
