Hirose Shrine

Japanese: 広瀬神社 - ひろせじんじゃ
Hirose Shrine

Located in Kawai, Kawai-cho, Kitakatsuragi-gun, Nara Prefecture. Wakaukanome-no-mikoto, Kushitama-no-mikoto, and Honoikazuchi-no-mikoto are enshrined here. It is said that the shrine was founded as Omi-kashiwade-no-kami during the reign of Emperor Sujin, and after the reign of Emperor Tenmu, it became customary to hold the Hirose O-imisai every April and July, just like the Tatsuta Wind God Festival (now Tatsuta Taisha in Misato-cho, Ikoma-gun), and this custom is also stipulated in the Shinto Code. It is a shrine listed in the Engi-shiki in Hirose-gun, Yamato Province, and was added to the 22 shrines during the Heian period. As the name suggests, the shrine is located near the confluence of the Yamato River, and it was highly revered as a water god who protects bountiful harvests. It was formerly a Kanpei Taisha (Great Shrine of the Imperial Court). Its annual festival is on April 4th. The Otaue Festival on February 11th is also known as the Sand-throwing Festival, and is an anthropomorphized agricultural ritual. The main hall is in the Kasuga style and was built in 1711 (Shotoku 1). It houses one volume of the "Kaaisha Engi" and one sheet of the "Drawings of Hirose Daimyojin, Hirose County, Washu."
