An old town in the eastern part of the Nishisonogi Peninsula, Nishisonogi County, Nagasaki Prefecture. It faces Omura Bay, whose ancient name was Kotonoumi, and pearl farming and sea cucumber and shrimp fishing are carried out here. Mandarin orange cultivation is popular, and the town also produces melons, strawberries, and persimmons. It was incorporated into Nagasaki City in January 2006. Area: 67.62 km2 . 長崎県西彼杵(にしそのぎ)郡，西彼杵半島東部の旧町。古名を琴海(ことのうみ)といった大村湾に臨み，真珠養殖，ナマコ・エビ漁を行う。ミカン栽培が盛んで，メロン，イチゴ，花卉(かき)も産する。2006年１月長崎市へ編入。67.62km2。１万3002人（2003）。
