Murchison named the group of strata consisting of limestone, sandstone, marl, and gravel, which are well developed in the Perm region in the western Ural Mountains of Russia, as the Permian system. The strata of the same period are divided into two layers in Germany, the Redbottom and the Zechstein series, and have been called Dyas since J. Markow (1859), and this is the translation of the Permian system. In Japan, the Permian period has been used as a term to indicate the period since ancient times. …
