Leo X - Leo

Pope of the Roman Empire (reigned 1513-1521). He was from the Medici family. In 1516, he signed the Treaty of Bologna to protect the right of the Catholic Church against the invasion of Italy by King Francis I of France. He had indulgences sold in Germany to raise funds for the construction of St. Peter's Basilica, which drew criticism from Luther.
