Japanese: 宿毛[市] - すくも

A city in the southwest of Kochi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. Facing Sukumo Bay, the city center, located on the alluvial lowlands downstream of the Matsuda River, was the former castle town of the Ando clan, a chief retainer of the Tosa clan, and is the center of the surrounding farming and fishing villages. In addition to rice, okra and broccoli are cultivated. Fishing for bonito on Okinoshima Island and sardines in Sukumo Bay have declined, and now the focus is on aquaculture of pearls, sea bream, and yellowtail. Construction of an industrial park and port development are underway. There is the Sukumo shell mound (historic site). 286.19 ^km2 . Population 22,610 (2010).

高知県南西部の市。1954年市制。宿毛湾に面し，松田川下流の沖積低地にある中心市街は土佐藩家老安東氏の旧城下町で付近の農漁村の中心である。米作のほかオクラ，ブロッコリー栽培が行われる。沖ノ島のカツオ釣，宿毛湾のイワシ漁は衰微，現在は真珠，タイ，ハマチなどの養殖が中心。工業団地の造成，港湾整備が進められている。宿毛貝塚（史跡）がある。286.19km²。２万2610人（2010）。
