When a conflict between nations reaches such a high level of tension that diplomatic negotiations and other peaceful solutions fail, diplomatic relations between the two nations are severed. It can also be a prelude to war. Usually, diplomatic missions and entourage are ordered to leave, but some relations, such as consular relations, continue. In 1961, the United States severed diplomatic relations with Cuba, which led to the Cuban Missile Crisis. → Severance of diplomatic relations Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
