Divisionism is the basic methodology of Neo-Impressionism. Originally, based on the understanding that light is composed of spectral colors, the aim was to reconstruct colors by juxtaposing pure colors rather than mixing them on a palette, in order to bring greater brilliance to the painting, but ultimately the aim was to divide the painting into elements such as brilliance, color, and harmony, and to maximize the benefits of each element. Pointillism, which is often confused with this, is, according to Signac, merely a technical means of this methodology. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
