Antelope - Antelope

Japanese: レイヨウ(羚羊) - レイヨウ
Antelope - Antelope
Also called antelope. A group of animals in the Bovidae family of the even-toed ungulate order, with slender limbs adapted for running. Shape resembles a deer. Usually, only males have horns, but some have both males and females. Sizes vary from the smallest, the royal antelope (25cm at shoulder height), to the largest, the black-necked eland (1.8m or more at shoulder height). Most are found in Africa, and some in Asia, and usually live in colonies in grasslands and deserts. Herbivorous. There are many species, including wildebeest, kudu (1.6m at shoulder height, Central Africa), nilgai (1.5m at shoulder height, India), scaly oryx (1.1m at shoulder height, Sudan), hartebeest (1.3m at shoulder height, East Africa), impala (1.0m at shoulder height, East and South Africa), Thomson's gazelle (70cm at shoulder height, East Africa), and others. They are also commonly called antelopes, but this is incorrect. It is completely different from true mountain serows (such as the Japanese serow, the Korean serow in East Asia, and the European chamois).
