〘 noun 〙 In the Middle Ages, a representative of the monks at Kofuku-ji Temple in Nara. Twenty capable monks were selected from the monks and appointed. This name comes from the fact that they were subordinates to the Jinbutsu, Gon-betsuto, and Sanno, who were appointed by official appointment. They controlled and dominated the monks, and under the orders of the Jinbutsu, they inspected temples and shrines in the Shichigo and below, and presided over religious ceremonies. 〘名〙 中世、奈良興福寺の衆徒の代表。衆徒の中から器用の者二〇人を選んで任命した。官符によって任命される寺務、権別当、三綱の被官であったところからいう。衆徒を統制し、支配し、寺務の命をうけて七郷以下の寺社の検断を行ない、神事法会などを奉行した。任期は原則として三年。官務衆徒。衆中(しゅうちゅう)。かんぷ。※大乗院寺社雑事記‐延徳二年(1490)一二月「仍号二官符衆徒一者此二十人也、一任三个年也」
